So much has happen in my absence from this little journal. We announced the dates of our midwestern/Canadian tour, we bought a van (more on that later), we were interviewed on the radio, we scaled a very large mid-Manhattan building, we explored some Bolivian silver mines, we starred (and did our own stunts) in a major motion picture and we won the lottery for the largest quilt ever made! Some of that is even true! And also…

Miss Fairchild, the Boston-based Pop-Funk band, announce the release of their sophomore long-player Ooh La La, Sha Sha… on Tuesday, September 4, 2007. With a style that distills the best funk and pop music from the past thirty years into a fresh new sound, the album fuses the band’s flair for spectacle with a genuine knack for what works.
A seminal night for Miss Fairchild, this Halloween 2006. Playing at Chicky’s Fine Diner in the hamlet of Westbrook, ME, DW, P. and myself had decided to dress as “the old Miss Fairchild.” Under those rules, Wrall might have had bigger hair and a different cut to his beard, P. might have worn sweat pants (pink, preferably) and I might have sported an ascot. Upon arrival, however, we found our costumes had already been taken by three enterprising fans. So Caitlin, Liz and Meaghan: way to represent. Maybe we can get some photos up here so the good folks keeping score at home can see. (hint, hint…)
At Halloween parties, you see people dressed as pop stars and musicians all the time; normally, however, those pop stars aren’t you.
Until next time, The Great Dunlap
Why has it taken me so long to post a blog entry? It’s not for lack of something interesting to say. We’ve played a number of fantastic shows lately, at AS-220, Sin-e and most recently Bubba’s Sulky Lounge, the first two with our very dear friends Get HIm Eat Him and the most recent with the inimitable Slowing Room and the family’s own Lipschitz, of Bad News Jones fame. Those of you who STILL haven’t checked out his music head over to myspace.com/jedsed immediately. You can finish reading my ramblings another time.
We’ve also put in many many many hours in the studio, recording our best music to date: a second full-length entitled “Ooh La La, Sha Sha…” To give you a sense of things, after I finished tracking all of the rhythm tracks (bass, guitars and keyboards with P.Nice on the drum tracks) we just layered a six piece horn section on the whole album. Yes, the whole album. Sooner than later we will also have a few of these tunes sprinkled throughout the live show.
And there are many other interesting topics to cover, including the Grammys, which performance-wise may have been the best ever. There is a new Prince album, which is fantastic, especially the MF favorite, “Lolita.”
My thinking is this: How about you give me a free pass on the lack of interesting updates, and I’ll start writing more? Maybe we can find out what happens when keepin’ it real goes right.
