Keep On Running

Howdy folks. After a decent lapse, I’d like to bring you tales of a brilliant weekend in Fairchildland. DW, Sam Nice and myself are taking Bessie back to Beantown right now and I’ve been tasked to pick up the blog mantle after too many days of letting this thing go. We just went through a toll, paying the 60 cent charge with a five dollar bill. The operator looked at us as he made our change and stated plainly to Sam, who was in the driver’s seat in pure fact only: “You need a receipt.” It wasn’t a question.

Breakfast

Kelloggs

In my last blog entry, I spoke of possible tour mvps. One such candidate was that first meal of the day: breakfast. On many days I don’t eat breakfast, which is odd since it’s my favorite meal; in fact, I haven’t once eaten before noon since we finished our tour. Until this morning, that is. I woke up way too early today, after far less sleep than necessary. It wasn’t my intention to do so, but the moon, while beautiful, was just too doggone bright, dagnabit. Anyhow, breakfast ensued, and while nothing to write home about in and of itself, certainly got me thinking about Miss Fairchild’s favorite breakfast joints. We always do a top six around here, since that’s my particular number (do you remember that little tidbit about OLLSS’s tracklisting?)and well, I’m the one writing this blog, so I’ll certainly list six places. In fact, though, this is really a top five with one honorable mention. You’ll see why shortly.

I know that you all want to hear about the really nice girl who made us really good sandwiches, despite having a lot of trouble cutting the meat out of avocados, but I really only want to talk about one thing right now…

Daddy Wrall is Burning! PVD is burning too! (in the good way).

I missed the no-hitter that Clay Buchholz pitched on Saturday, but I have an excuse: Miss Fairchild was playing a killer party in Rhode Island. It’s called Providence is Burning and it’s truly the bee’s knees. This is how it works: Micah and Jackson, along with Certified Max (and Sammy Bananas) team up with Firehouse 13 (a really cool converted firehouse on the west side of Providence that houses art and artists) to create a monthly all-hands-on-deck party with dancing and fun and all kinds of things!

But let’s backtrack a little to earlier in the day on Saturday. Prior to heading to Providence to burn down the Firehouse (irony intended, I presume), Miss Fairchild decided it would be fun to clean Daddy Wrall’s ears. Now, having heard too many horror stories about cue tips and peroxide, we decided to go the new age route and use ear cones. It’s a little loud and a bit awkward (especially if that hair gets brushed by a burning ember!), but effective nonetheless. You can get the general gist from that oh-so-fun photograph above.

Sam Nice (He has too many names doesn’t he? I’m going to have to come up with a few more for myself so as not to feel left out) did the driving to Providence. It’s a drive he knows well, from his time living there, so he decided to take some liberties…

Weird Dude Dancing to Miss Fairchild

Trick Johnson, trolling the internet for examples of his exemplary bass playing, stumbled upon a bootleg video of Miss Fairchild as the live soundtrack to an intoxicated “gentleman’s” dance routine… Quite entertaining througout, but the end is special. Watch the whole thing, please, and enjoy a bit of irony, courtesy of the world’s favorite internet video site.

Ooh La La, Sha Sha... press release

August 2007

Miss Fairchild, the Boston-based Pop-Funk band, announce the release of their sophomore long-player Ooh La La, Sha Sha… on Tuesday, September 4, 2007. With a style that distills the best funk and pop music from the past thirty years into a fresh new sound, the album fuses the band’s flair for spectacle with a genuine knack for what works.

Foo Fest 2007

Hands_up_

Wow, how much fun was Foo Fest?

I think I can speak for the rest of the band when I declare my love for Providence. No matter the event, the location or the size of the crowd, this town is always down to participate in The Miss Fairchild Show.

And well, it was a sort of milestone for us here at Miss Fairchild. Y’all were likely the largest gathering of people we’ve had since expanding this band to five pieces. And for that to be a Providence crowd… well, that’s special.

So three cheers for Providence! We’ll see you soon. (Don’t forget to write.)

From Shining Sea To Frozen Tundra

Well, it looks like I missed that ever important next day window for recapping Miss Fairchild’s recent strong. You see, I spent nearly the entirety of Thursday, Friday and Saturday awake, and come Sunday, there were not enough remaining braincells to form one complete sentence, let alone several complete sentences to make paragraphs and such. Well, now we’re at Wednesday and I still have doubts about the projected coherence of my ramblings, but here I go anyway…

???????

Why has it taken me so long to post a blog entry? It’s not for lack of something interesting to say. We’ve played a number of fantastic shows lately, at AS-220, Sin-e and most recently Bubba’s Sulky Lounge, the first two with our very dear friends Get HIm Eat Him and the most recent with the inimitable Slowing Room and the family’s own Lipschitz, of Bad News Jones fame. Those of you who STILL haven’t checked out his music head over to myspace.com/jedsed immediately. You can finish reading my ramblings another time.

We’ve also put in many many many hours in the studio, recording our best music to date: a second full-length entitled “Ooh La La, Sha Sha…” To give you a sense of things, after I finished tracking all of the rhythm tracks (bass, guitars and keyboards with P.Nice on the drum tracks) we just layered a six piece horn section on the whole album. Yes, the whole album. Sooner than later we will also have a few of these tunes sprinkled throughout the live show.

And there are many other interesting topics to cover, including the Grammys, which performance-wise may have been the best ever. There is a new Prince album, which is fantastic, especially the MF favorite, “Lolita.”

My thinking is this: How about you give me a free pass on the lack of interesting updates, and I’ll start writing more? Maybe we can find out what happens when keepin’ it real goes right.

Or weeks more like it. The last three strongs have been all about the stamina show for Miss Fairchild. To those of you that have been persistently requesting a new blog posting, I apologize for taking so long. Here’s what’s up:
